Keyboard shortcuts for missing special characters

This is a tip which will surely be helpful to a lot of users. We all use keyboard. But if you see, there are many special characters which we need usually, but are missing in the keyboard. Prime examples are currency symbols and arithmetic characters like ±, ÷ etc.. And we will have to search for these, find it somewhere in the web and probably copy/paste it to our document. Or, we would use the insert special characters option in MS Word to choose the characters we need. But, what if we want to type these somewhere else, say a chat window or a message/comment box. So, next time before you go for such things, try these cool keyboard shortcuts. Yes, these so called ‘missing’ characters are indeed there and can be typed in to any type-window directly from the keyboard. So, lets see how it works.
First and foremost, enable the numpad of the keyboard. So you should be able to type in the numbers from it. Also, press and hold the Alt key while typing the below numpad combinations.
I am giving only a few examples. There are plenty of other characters that can be typed with different combinations. I am leaving it to you to explore those hidden ones.
Alt + 0189 – ½
0190 – ¾
0188 – ¼
0153 – ™
0169 – ©
0174 – ®
0162 – ¢
0131 – ƒ
0128 – €
0165 – ¥
0177 – ±
0247 – ÷
062 – >
060 – <
061 – =
0149 – •
1 – ☺
2 – ☻
3 – ♥
4 – ♦
5 – ♣
6 – ♠
As I said, its just a few… Try different combinations and find out the rest !!!

Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

I have always been fascinated by how fast you can do things when you work on computer(especially, desktop computers). You have the keyboard and the mouse, and you will have to juggle between these two to get what you want. I have been searching for ways where I can negate the use of Mouse completely and work fully with just the keyboard. And I am not disappointed, because there are a lot of keyboard alternatives for the functionalities of mouse. So lets see those keyboard shortcuts. You all will be knowing most of these basic shortcuts, nevertheless, it will help you refresh things…

Time for a couple of useful mouse scroll-wheel tricks
1. Click on a link with the mouse scroll-wheel and it will be opened in a new tab.
2. Click any blank portion of a webpage with the mouse scroll wheel and you will get a marker displayed for auto-scroll option. Now you just need to move the mouse around without clicking anything or scrolling the scroll-wheel, and it will follow the mouse pointer and will scroll through the page up-down-left-right. The distance between the marker displayed and the mouse pointer will determine the speed of scrolling. The farther you keep the mouse pointer from the marker, the faster will be the scroll speed.
You got any cool keyboard shortcuts missing from the above list that worked wonders? Share them also with us….. :)

Open Programs and Folders in Another User’s Profile without logging off

Ok, let's see how one can open or access one or more applications/programs and folders/files in another user profile, without logging off from the current profile.
We have seen ‘Run As’ option in application shortcuts which lets you open it with a different user profile. (for those don’t know that yet, simply right-click the shortcut of a program and click on ‘Run As’. It will ask you for the user credentials, provide them and you are free to use it.) These Run As shortcuts are easier for administrators when they require to install a program which requires admin credentials to get installed, from a power user machine. But, not everything provides that liberty to access them like that. For example, you want to access a share folder which you don’t have access, but your colleague has. So normally what you can do, is to ask your colleague to give his/her machine for some time, so that you can work on it, or ask them to send the files to you, or ask them to share the files in a common share folder which you can access. All these, as you can see, are time consuming and irritating. So lets get to the point — The RunAs command.
How to use the RunAs command ?
The command can be executed from Start — Run.
Syntax goes like this : RUNAS [/profile] [/env] [/netonly] /user:user Program (Italics portion to be replaced by the user’s entry)
eg : Runas /profile /user:DEC\John explorer.exe, where John is the user name and DEC is his domain. Once this command is run, a command prompt window will prompt for the password of the user(here, John). Enter the password and press Enter.
A new explorer window will open up with John’s credentials. Enter the share folder path and it will be authenticated with John’s credentials.
Similarly, try for iexplore.exe and cmd instead of explorer.exe.

A Secret Firefox Search Tip

Ok, so everyone is busy surfing through the internet and are visiting tons of sites. This tip could well change the way you search in internet completely. I don’t know why Firefox didn’t pay attention to this unique feature and attract more people to them.
Everyone loves searching, and google is their pet. But it’s not just Google that you try searching – Wikipedia, ebay, Yahoo, you name it… virtually, every site has this option to search. So why should we waste our time by going to all these places and search content there? Why don’t we just do this directly from the address bar without even opening the site?? Lets see how it’s done from Firefox.

1. Open Wikipedia and right-click the search bar. Choose the option ‘Add a Keyword for this search‘.
2. You will get a small dialog box. Enter the name of the bookmark in the Name field. Then in the keyword field, type a keyword you would like to use. I chose to use the keyword ‘wiki’.

3. Ok, close Wikipedia and open a fresh tab. In the address bar, type ‘your-keywordsearch-term‘. For example, I am typing as ‘wiki india’(without quotes), as my keyword is ‘wiki’ and my search term is India.
4. The result will take you directly to the Wikipedia search result page for ‘India’.

 5. Surprised?? Ok, now try the same on Google, from step 1 to 3. Once this is done, you can directly bypass to the search result of your desired website.
Happy Searching!!!

My nikon d3100 debuts

Click..click..click.! A very satisfying first outing for me as I got a good opportunity to learn more about my new companion. The occasion was my close relative's engagement. Lots of people and loads of clicks. Also found time to learn some details into using the camera from the official photographer at the event. It's just the beginning and i'm pretty happy with the first assignment. Miles to go.... :)

Certified

Finally, after 8 months of struggle, anxiety and excitement, MCITP Certification(Microsoft Certified IT Professional) comes home.....3 months of classroom training and 5 subsequent exam papers....it was never easy. Thank God for this. Thanks to Logic Solutions for arranging classrooms and exam rooms (including registering each exam through Prometric). Thanks to Faisal Sir and Subeesh Sir for the training and support. And not to mention, my family and colleagues for their support. Talking about colleagues, cant forget the time when I was having classes, they adjusted and agreed to a shift timing which enabled me to complete my classroom training in time. Thanks everyone... :)

Daivathirumagal

It's very rare that I see a film within the first two weeks of its release... The fact that I am yet to see Salt & Pepper underlines it... But somehow it all happened that we decided to watch this movie. Coming to the movie, this is one such film which will linger in my mind for sometime... It's difficult to put this into a specific genre, not fully commercial or art, it just fills itself so conveniently between all these... have to commend the casting, each one justified their place really well. To be honest, baby
shalinikum baby shamilikum shesham ithu pole itra valsalyam thoniya oru kuttye kanditilla cinemayil.... So cute and touching , and true to her role, hats off to the little wonder... :) Each and every scene she appeared on-screen,she made it special. And yes , no
words to describe Vikram, but I would say the direction was spot on. Vikram essayed one of the most difficult roles that one would ever get. It could've very easily gone funny or weird, but Vikram brought his entire skill and experience to showcase one of those classy roles which he will be remembered for in future. I am particularly impressed by the direction, the whole movie was carried along so effortlessly along with some beautiful camera work. Must watch for everyone.... enjoy the emotions and excitement, you wlll be moved for sure :)
